My chimney is old and I just got a new high efficient furnace which is causing effloressence to come through the chimney walls - I need a chimney liner. I want to know why they pour insulation mix top to bottom in the chimney after installing the liner.

We have lived in our current house for 4 1/2 years, and the chimney has never been swept or cleaned out once in all that time. Last year I lit one of those creosote logs in the fireplace, but that is the extent to loosening the "stuck-ons" in the chimney. I think I'm going to buy a chimney sweeper this year. How often should chimneys be swept? Any other advice?

Considering purchasing a house with 3 chimneys... Curious as to how often the chimney should be brushed or cleaned internally?
